Berena Álvarez (1982)
Berena Álvarez is a visual artist and photographer whose objective is to reflect sociocultural situations related to gender and identity. She graduated from the Espai d’Art Fotogràfic School in Valencia, Spain.
She studied photography there for two years and then obtained a Master’s Degree in Photography, Production, and Creation at the Espai d’Art Fotografic and the University of Valencia. She continues to participate in workshops with Spanish and international photographers who enable her to continue growing in the field of photography. Álvarez received a scholarship from the Valencia City Council and an award for her Master’s project ‘Infirmes’.
‘Infirmes’, currently on view at Soho Photo Gallery, has also been exhibited at the Sala del Tosal in Valencia and will be shown at the Cervantes Institute in Moscow in 2019. Previously, her project Gossypium was exhibited in various exhibition spaces in Spain and now she is working on a new project, called ‘Scrapped’, that takes place in New York.
